ENCHANTED BY THE SWALLOWS (September 10, 2015)
On my way to Zagreb, I came to the bus station in Livade a bit earlier than usual. Walking around the station, which is right in the center of the village, I noticed a large number of swallows flying around me. And then I realized that they were all flying to a three-story house close to the station. Only then I spotted a large number of nests under the eaves of the house. The swallows were feeding their young and screeching loudly. Walking around the house, I counted thirty-three nests. They were lined up next two each other in twos, threes, and fours. Not a single nest was by itself. Looking under the eaves of the neighboring houses, I spotted some nests, but not nearly as many as on the house next to the station. It was a bit taller than the houses surrounding it. Perhaps the swallows chose it for safety reasons. But it was clear that they wanted their nests right next to each other. Each couple had its own nest, but the whole flight stuck closely together. Enchanted by the swallows, I returned to the station with a smile on my face. The bus appeared soon enough and picked me up.
