DENT BY DENT (December 16, 2015)

The seventh episode in the “Star Wars” series is in the news. Now it is advertised as an American epic space opera, no less. “The Force Awakens” is the glorious title of the first movie in a new trilogy. It was shown for the first time a couple of days ago in Los Angeles, and it is due for release a couple of days from now. Distributed worldwide by Disney, it will be in the news for quite a while. The movie is expected to break the box office records with projected profits exceeding one-billion dollars. The next two movies in the trilogy are scheduled for 2017 and 2019. And so on, and so forth. Although I am most happy that this inane movie is marking this historical moment, for it is an unbeatable joke on our crumbling civilization, I am sure not to see any of the movies in the trilogy. This will be my dent in the projected profits. And I hope that millions of other potential viewers will make their own dents in the fullness of time. What better way to celebrate the American epic space opera on offer? Dent by dent, the joke will be our own.
