BY ELECTIONS (November 8, 2015)

Croatia had parliamentary elections today. It is evening by now, but it does not cross my mind to check the results. This country cannot be helped by elections.

Addendum I (December 17, 2015)

Prescient, or what? More than a month after the last elections, Croatia is still bereft of a government. In fact, a new government is nowhere is sight. What with a bewildering tangle of laws regulating political life and an incompetent political elite, there is no end to the present conundrum on the horizon. Many people are thus hoping for new elections early next year. Costly as they are, they are thought to be the only way forward. Alas, people forget that this country cannot be helped by elections!

Addendum II (June 3, 2016)

Well, half a year after the last elections, Croatia is still bereft of a government worthy of that name. There is much talk, most of which is cantankerous, and that is that. Simply put, the new government appears to be at sea. New elections are still bantered about left and right, but there is no sign of them yet. Not surprisingly, the mood is gradually darkening across Croatia. At long last, people seem to realize that this country cannot be helped by elections. Prescient? Or just sarcastic to boot?
