BRIGHT FUTURE! (January 5, 2015)

My beloved called me a few minutes ago. I was surprised, for we call each other under special circumstances only. She asked me whether I was in her apartment, and I replied that I was in one of my favorite watering holes. Then she said that she was at the apartment door, but that she must have used the wrong key. I thought that she was in her office, though. And then she said that everything was okay, for she had managed to open the door. My key in the lock was not blocking her way, in other words. She added that she had sent me a mobile-phone text-message before leaving her office because she had forgotten a few USBs at home. She needed the vaunted Universal Serial Buses at work. When we finished our conversation, I checked the inbox on my mobile phone. There was no new message from my beloved there, and thus I sent her a message to that effect. And then I received her original message with a delay of a bit less than half an hour. “Modern technology,” I wrote to her in yet another message. “Bright future!” A moment later she replied in kind: “Yes.” No wonder I am disgusted by each and every ad that comes my way featuring some new gizmo in science fiction terms. Science fiction, my ass.
