12:04 (March 1, 2015)
Thus the clock on my mobile phone only a few seconds ago. Curiously, Constantinople is on my mind once again. This time it falls to the Fourth Crusade. That is, Venetians led by the crafty doge Enrico Dandolo. More than eight centuries later, Venice is still despised by many Orthodox Christians for its manipulation of the innocent crusaders. Devastated by the onslaught, the once magnificent city fell to the Turks a couple of centuries later. Byzantium was no more. What remained of ancient Rome disappeared with it never to return. I am getting annoyed by my reading of the digital clock, though. If only I could read the clock past 20:15… Sadly, it offers not a clue for great events following 20:59. The dark decades, as it were.
