And timely, too. The trouble is that there are no politicians behind the European Union, let alone the eurozone. Jean-Claude Juncker is just a puppet, while Federica Mogherini is not even that. And Angela Merkel is only a German politician. To wit, the time may have actually come for the Union to become a political entity, which it is not at present. Alternatively, the time may have come for the Union to recognize its historical failure and call it quits. Twenty-three years after Maastricht, it is still impossible to define it in any meaningful terms. Sadly, it is not even a club, for clubs have expulsion rules from day one. Returning to the newspaper’s advice, the time may well have come for some clarity all around. Greece is the least of Europe’s problems.
