“GREEK PRESIDENT PROMISES REPAYMENT OF ALL DEBT” (April 27, 2015)

Thus Der Spiegel today. “The new Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos categorically rules out his country exiting the eurozone and supports calls for German reparations payments in connection with Nazi war crimes,” elaborates the newspaper. The photograph that accompanies the article shows him in his cabinet lined with volumes of some encyclopedia of renown. In his mid-sixties, he looks kind of tired even though he has been in his post for about a month only. His promise thus sounds ridiculous to boot. Feeling sorry for Pavlopoulos, I cannot but think of the European Union, as well. Tired faces of Angela Merkel and Jean-Claude Juncker come to my mind at once. Feeling sorry for them all, I leave the article unread. Goodnight, Europe. Sleep tight. And enjoy the sweetest of dreams.
