THE STENCH OF ZEN (December 30, 1989)
On his death-bed a Master was asked by his disciple and Dharma heir: “Master, is there anything else that I need to know?” “No,” said the Master, “I am quite satisfied by and large. But there is one thing about you that still worries me.” “What is it?” asked the heir. “Please tell me so that I can set it right.” “Well,” said the Master, “the trouble is you still stink of Zen.”
