Why do I take my laptop with me every night? That is, why is it resting next to my bed night after night? There are a few reasons worth pinning down, no doubt. First of all, I wish to record every dream as soon as I wake up in the middle of the night, for it may vanish by the morning. To my chagrin, many a dream has been lost this way already. Next, I may wish to check the World Wide Web whenever I happen to wake up for a short while. This world of ours is brimming with news, and some are pretty important, if not also vital. Last but most important, I am afraid that my laptop may be stolen by a stray thief. Even though this is something this has not yet happened in my last hometown, it has happened to me in my previous hometowns. And my laptop is essential for my survival, to be sure. Without uninterruptible access to my Residua website, I would be utterly lost (“Worse than Death,” December 22, 2024). And this is hardly an exaggeration. Sooner or later, I may start carrying my laptop in my knapsack whenever I leave my house and home no matter how shortly. Whence my wish to acquire a smaller and lighter device that would always be within my reach. A comfort gadget, as it were. By now, my life without my magnum opus at my fingertips is unimaginable to me. The pits!
