DEATH OR CHI-CHI (December 24, 1986)

Three anthropologists are captured by a hostile tribe someplace in Africa. They are presently tied to the three posts in the center of the village. After a while, the medicine man comes to the first anthropologists, and says: “Here’s your choice—either death or chi-chi. What will it be?” Bewildered by the choice, the first anthropologist says: “Chi-chi!” “Fine,” says the medicine man, “chi-chi it will be.” They untie him, take him to the edge of the jungle, and the whole tribe rapes him. When they let him go, he runs screaming and yelling into the jungle. The medicine man then returns to the village and asks the second anthropologist: “It’s either death or chi-chi. What will it be?” The second anthropologist decides for chi-chi, too, and suffers the same fate as the first one. When they let him go, he runs screaming and yelling into the jungle. Finally, the medicine man approaches the third anthropologist: “Death or chi-chi?” “Death!” says the third anthropologist upon some reflection. “Fine,” says the medicine man, “death it will be, but first chi-chi.”
